I admit that You Tube constitutes an inseparable part of my job and my works. On the other hand, I can’t deny the existence of other video hosting sites that are strong alternatives to You Tube. Maybe it is time to make a list for my colleagues to display these alternatives. I know there are numerous video hosting sites but here I will just list the ones that are more education-theme based:
Big Thinkis a site providing videos and multi media presentations based on the comments of experts in their fields. You can find a variety of interviews instead of prepared talks, which makes you feel as if you actually asked the question.
CNN Student Newsoffers ten-minute, daily news programs for middle and high school students produced by the journalists and educators at CNN. CNN Student News also provides the transcripts and discussion questions and printable maps based on the episodes of the videos.
Discovery News provides education opportunities both for teachers and students. You can learn the latest news on technology, animals, space, archaeology, dinosaurs, history and earth here.
5 Minute is a site that teaches you how to do almost anything in 5 minute videos.
How Stuff Works is a fabulous website that you can use to find different types of resources containing videos, pod casts, quizzes, games and articles.
Next Vista is an online library of free videos for learners everywhere. There are three main categories; which are light bulbs providing explanations of certain topics, global views including videos generated to support understanding of cultures all over the world and seeing service offering videos about people who are capable of making a difference in their lives.
School Tube is an educational platform where you can access loads of excellent student and teacher produced videos from all over the world. School Tube also allows the schools to create their own channels for sharing their students’ studies online.
Schools World TV is a good site supplying educational videos and useful resources to make your classroom more productive.
Teacher Tube is one of the great resources offering videos created for teachers together with lesson plans, articles and brilliant ideas.
Teachers TV is a government-funded service that broadcast on UK television and online. It presents a vast library of videos created to promote professional development and support teaching and learning.
TEDis a great platform offering a variety of opportunities to access compelling, educational, and entertaining presentations given by the world’s leading experts on various topics.
Wired is quite effective for reaching hundreds of videos touching on a variety of technology, science and culture topics.
